What:

Following up on recent reports that high levels of lead have been found in certain children´s toys, Contra Costa Health Services´ Contra Costa Lead Poisoning Prevention Project is co-sponsoring a free, one-day toy-testing event in Antioch. Parents can bring in their children´s toys to be tested and will receive instant results about the potential hazard. New toys that test positive may be eligible for cash exchange on location. Testing will be performed by the Center for Environmental Health and the event is co-sponsored by the Contra Costa First 5 Children and Families Commission.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, January 23, 2009

Why:

Millions of metal, plastic, and painted wooden toys have been recalled because they contain lead. Lead can seriously harm a child´s development, learning, and behavior.
